101 on breakfast: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day… your  thinking yeah duh i know that, then why are only 44% of adults eating breakfast? 20% of those 44% believe that skipping breakfast will help them lose weight. FALSE! skipping breakfast can add to weight gain because breakfast skippers replace calories during the day with mindless nibbling, bingeing at lunch and dinner.

What you eat for breakfast sets up your entire neurotransmitter production for the day. This is particularly important for attention span and concentration.

Most of the time skipping breakfast or eating the wrong breakfast comes down to time. Ben’s Army understand that time could be used for more important things so here are some tips to help you get the start your body needs every morning.

  • Prep meals ahead of time.
  • Wake up 5 minutes earlier.
  • Plan your meals each week.

You know how important a good breakfast is, but do you know what a “good” breakfast is?

A meat and nut breakfast is an ideal start to your day. A meat and nuts breakfast raises both dopamine and acetyl-choline, the two most important neurotransmitters for focus and drive.

The meat allows for a slow and steady rise in blood sugar.

The nuts provide a great source of healthy smart fats that allows the blood sugar to remain stable for an extended period of time. Allergic to nuts? Avocado, Olives or Blueberries are a good sub in.

After reading this my mind went nuts (pun intended) trying to think of quick fast and easy recipes that insured i was beginning my day correctly. Last night i tested my idea for a breakfast i could reheat and eat on the way to work, i came up with – Meat Cup – The Ben’s Amry cook book has a similar recipe for “egg cups” although this take on the recipe adds more meat.

I made 6 Meat Cups with eggs inside and 6 with out, so that it wasn’t the same thing every morning – simply place one in a container then put it into the fridge until ready to eat. To serve reheat for 30 seconds in the microwave (they are also nice cold) add 5 raw almonds (or sup in’s) on the side and you breakfast is complete!

Correct nutrition and constant exercise either with personal training or classes will dramatically help with over all health and fitness!
